OpenEmbedded and the Emtec Moviecube

I'm currently trying to get my first third-party application up-and-running on the Emtec Moviecube. On a Linux box, I have installed OpenEmbedded using this guide.

Net, I am using the OpenWRT configuration profile that OE comes with, since the Linksys WRT54G also sports a MIPS processor and has comparable characteristics.

More on the outcome of my tests and a full how-to will follow if I get something working :-)

Please tell us how to make linux work on the emtec disaster. I really hate my emtec moviecube, what a bad product.

it does not respond to the remote controll
it does not respond to the front panel

when i finally manage to play a mp3 it starts over and over again

i am about to throw the disk away, because i have never witnessed such a faulty product

i hate my emtec moviecube

Hello

I'm french user of the Movie Cube R and globally happy of it. But same as you, I search to add it some functionalities.

I've open a forum http://moviecube.xooit.fr (in french) to help the users.

Give me your test conclusion if you can add some other soft.

I am not sure if this is the correct place
to ask questions on the EMTEC Moviecube. So far it is working fine, but I need to know how to extract the tv shows I record.
Where do the files live?

Is there something going on here or is this blog dead? I found a interesting german forum where they have managed to get FTP up and running and a torrent client. The also uploaded a development toolchain. The hardware looks different but it is definatly the same hardware inside (i tried the firmware 2.0.8UP made specially for this macine and it works on the emtec too)

I'm the author of the blog. To be honest I have too little time to hack the MovieCube, so that's why there haven't been any posts.

Thanks for posting the links, they look really helpful!

Hi,
I've tested this thing for a friend and agree it sucks a little.
I'm curious of what you already found out about it.
I think it will run anything you put there.
I was tempted to upload ftpd on in and enable it on inetd, but I promised I wouldn't mess with it.
I dumped the all /dev/hda2 to a pen though.
Please try compile mplayer (for uclib+mips) and try to run on fb mode and post about it, next try to find more about the graphic card and if mplayer has a specific driver for it.
I'll be following this blog. If you give up, please post.

cheers

Like the others I would like to know how you get started. I'm just thinking about implement Ultrastar to use the Movie-Cube as an karaoke machine. Maybe you like the Idea...

just started a thread on MHDWorld
